Becoming With Purpose Journal
History can explain closeness, but it does not guarantee unlimited access forever. Relationships need present-day trust, respect, and repair—not only a shared past.
You do not owe permanent access to anyone who repeatedly harms your peace.
Access can have levels
Boundaries are not limited to total closeness or total cutoff. You can change the frequency of contact, the subjects you discuss, the places you meet, or the information you share. The level of access can reflect the level of demonstrated safety.
Let patterns carry weight
Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is what follows: accountability, changed behavior, and respect for your limits. Repeated harm paired with repeated promises is a pattern. You are allowed to respond to what continues, not only to what someone says they intend.
A small practice for today
Draw three circles labeled inner, familiar, and public. Place relationships where their current behavior—not their title—suggests they belong.
Pause and reflect
- Where has history become a substitute for trust?
- What level of access matches the evidence I have?
- What would respectful repair need to include?
